Invisalign®

Invisalign

Invisalign® is a popular orthodontic treatment that uses a clear aligner system to gradually improve the alignment of your teeth and bite. Each aligner is made out of a clear plastic and is fabricated to initiate a certain type of movement. Multiple aligners are used during treatment to obtain the desired results. In addition to being clear, the aligners are also removable and can be easily removed while eating, brushing, or flossing. This means there is no need for dietary restrictions. Clear aligners are also described as being more comfortable than metal braces.

Did You Know?

Invisalign®  clear aligners are made out of a specialized material that allows them to comfortably reposition the teeth and bite. When compared to metal braces, Invisalign® produces similar results and retention rates.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Am I a candidate for Invisalign®?

You may be a candidate for Invisalign® if you have:

  • Crooked or overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Overbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Underbite

Although Invisalign® is effective in the treatment of mild malocclusion, your dentist may recommend metal braces to treat severe malocclusion. What can I expect when undergoing Invisalign® treatment at Maxtown Family Dental?

When undergoing Invisalign® treatment at Maxtown Family Dental, the first step is to have your mouth scanned with an oral scanner. This information will be uploaded into Invisalign®’s software to preview your results and determine an approximate treatment length. It will also be used to fabricate your aligners needed to obtain the final results.

When your aligners have been fabricated, your dentist will provide you with the first set. You can expect to wear your aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day and should only remove them while eating, brushing, or flossing. Most aligner sets are worn for 1-2 weeks, then you will progress to the next set. Every 6-8 weeks, you will visit Maxtown Family Dental to get your next series of aligners. Your dentist will provide you specific instructions on how long to wear these aligners depending on your treatment plan and progress.

Will I need to wear a retainer after Invisalign® treatment?

Yes, you will still need to wear a retainer after Invisalign® treatment, however Invisalign® offers a clear retainer that is similar to their aligners. Retainers are essential because they “retain” your results by holding your teeth and bite in their new position to prevent them from shifting back to their original position. Most retainers will need to be worn at all times at first, then will transition to only being worn at night. It is important to follow your dentist’s instructions regarding retainer use to ensure your results last.
